Weekly Review #3
This week I attended a life drawing lesson at Cardiff Life Model Collective and I intend to go every tuesday to not just improve my life drawing skills but to focus on the female body and create accurate drawings that will really benefit my project. I enjoyed the quick 2-5 minute poses and I mostly focused on close up drawings of the vagina and breasts, so that when I experiment with textiles and hand stitching I will be working from a primary source. I think that my drawing skills have definitely improved from when I first attended life drawing classes at college because, I couldn't sketch the body proportionally and I found the quick poses really difficult. I also started researching textile artists this week for my proposal and I found Sally Hewett, Rebecca Harris and Zoe Buckman's work to be really inspirational and I admire how they use textiles to show changes in the female body. I included these artists in my proposal because their textile work made me want to push my work further and into a different direction. Instead of looking at birth as a whole, I now want to research questions such as; How does the media view pregnant women?, How does birth alter and change a woman's body?, What ailments and discomforts do pregnant women suffer from during pregnancy? and to research further into birth statistics. Next week I want to continue to update my timesheets, attend life drawing lessons, continue experimenting in my sketchbook and to finish my proposal.
